Rodney Crowell w. Laurel Lewis
Rodney Crowell is the songwriters songwriter and an icon among giants. Native Texan, Crowell is a multi-Grammy Award-winning troubadour with fifteen number one hits. Over the course of his career, Crowell has gracefully blended his own mainstream success as an artist with a prolific catalog of songs cut by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Keith Urban and more, making him a master among his peers. With more than 40 years of American roots music under his belt, Crowell has also been cited as the architect of Americana music, extending his genre reach, but owing to the distinctly universal, literary quality of his writing, he has also penned beloved songs for artists as diverse as Bob Seger, Etta James, the Grateful Dead, John Denver, Jimmy Buffett and countless others.A member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Crowell is also the author of the acclaimed memoir, Chinaberry Sidewalks, and teamed up with New York Times best-selling author Mary Karr for Kin: Songs by Mary Karr Like Hank Williams or Townes Van Zandt or Miss Lucinda, he writes and croons with a poets economy and a well diggers deep heart. Crowell was honored with ASCAPs prestigious Founders Award in 2017, and that same year released the album Close Ties, which spawned another Grammy nomination for It Aint Over Yet with Rosanne Cash and John Paul White in the category of Best Americana Song. 2019s Texas was a collection of Lone Star-centric collaborations with Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Ronnie Dunn, Steve Earle and more, and Crowells most recent album release is the 2021 set, Triage.Crowell came up in Nashvilles songwriting heyday alongside Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, and Steve Earle and has continued that legacy of camaraderie and kinship with his peers well into the iconic era of his career. As many say - your favorite song was probably written by Rodney Crowell. Crowell has four daughters and lives with his wife and dog in Tennessee. He writes every day and loves tending to his garden.

  • Mary Fahl - Former Lead Singer of October Project
Mary Fahl - Former Lead Singer of October Project
With a voice for the gods that can transport listeners to other realms (Boston Globe), Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-1990s NYC- based chamber-pop group October Project, a band known for their lush harmonies, sweeping melodies and Fahls unique and powerful vocals. After two records on Epic, Fahl went on to pursue her own muse, whether that meant writing and recording songs for movies (including the theme for the Civil War epic Gods and Generals), singing arias and medieval Spanish songs for Sony Classical or releasing a unique album-length take on Dark Side of the Moon With an earthy, viscerally powerful contralto that bridges the generational gap between Fairport Conventions Sandy Denny and London Grammars Hannah Reid, Mary Fahl makes music that feels timeless, esoteric and ecumenical. Her elegant, cinematic songs have a hauntingly gothic romanticism that inspired renowned writer Anne Rice to portray Marys voice emanating from a dead womans room in her 2013 novel The Wolves of Midwinter Over the past few years, shes been touring and recording on her own label, Rimar Records, and her recent releases have garnered awards including an Indie Acoustic Award for Best Live Album for Live at the Mauch Chunk Opera House (filmed for PBS) and a 2020 Independent Music Award for her recent holiday album, Winter Songs and Carols. Her Blu-ray 5.1 surround DVD, From the Dark Side of the Moon, brilliantly mixed by Bob Clearmountain, won the 2021 Immersive Album Audio Listeners Choice award and was named Immersive Album of the Year by Life in Surround. Now she returns with Cant Get It Out of My Head. In an effort to find some light and comfort during these challenging times, singer/songwriter Fahl looks back to some of the essential music that has brought her sustenance and clarity by reinterpreting songs from her greatest inspirations Pink Floyd, George Harrison, Moody Blues, ELO, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young and others. For Mary, this is a tribute to the music that defined her as an artist.

  • Electric Six
Electric Six
Electric Six. The band that put out an album a year for what seemed like 666 years. The most reliable act in show business, there was simply no question that each year would bring another E6 record on Metropolis Records. Mayans based their calendar on Electric Six. Flocks of migrating birds used the new Electric Six record as a homing device. Small time criminals were sentenced to four to seven E6 albums with time off for wonderful behavior. In a business so fickle, so unreliable, so difficult to navigate...the only constant was Electric Six. There was always an album a year.......until there wasnt.Five years has gone by since the last Electric Six offering and weve heard the chatter. Electric Six just doesnt have it anymore. Electric Six has really let me down. Gotye will have an album before Electric Six does.As we all know...talk is cheap. And bullshit walks. And now theres a new goddamn Electric Six record ready to go and its good, Jack. Real good.Behold Turquoise is here, the long awaited studio album return of Electric Six!!! Perhaps the catchiest, brightest album in their catalog, Electric Six reminds you how profoundly fun they can be, hitting you over the head with fourteen pop explosions guaranteed to burrow their way into your dance hole. The recording of Turquoise began in January of 2020, but you know, something distracted us for a couple of years shortly after starting the record. The pandemic tacked a bit of time onto the schedule of this project and Electric Six certainly felt the need to tap into the collective feelings of the time in tracks like Panic! Panic! and the title track Turquoise. The overall vibe of Turquoise ranges from the infectious pop of Take Me To The Sugar and Staten Island Ass Squad, to the heavy rock of Child Of Hunger and Skywriting, to the Springsteeny goodness of Units of Time. Electric Six is a band for all tastes , all times and all sizes. The pandemic slowed us all down and ripped time into shreds. It forced Electric Six to take a little time to look at itself in the mirror. Andwho did Electric Six see staring back? The answer? It saw Electric Six. It saw Turquoise. When a band finally makes an albumthisexciting, it doesnt need to do anything else anymore anytime soon ever again. But it will.....Electric Six can never die. And we are still the band that does one album a year....if you re-define year. Which we do.

  • The Howard Levy 4
The Howard Levy 4
The Howard Levy 4 is a dynamic, multi-styled band hailing from Chicago, led by Grammy- Award winning diatonic harmonica master, pianist and composer Howard Levy. Joining him are the incredibly virtuosic guitarist Chris Siebold, the outstanding upright and electric bassist Joshua Ramos, and the masterful Brazilian drummer Luiz Ewerling. This powerhouse ensemble delivers pure musical magic in a range of styles that includes Jazz, Latin, World Music, and Blues. Besides several distinctively reworked American and Brazilian tunes, the band has an astonishingly diverse repertoire of original compositions that combine and blend many cultures, rhythms and genres, creating a sonic experience thats nothing short of extraordinary.A prolific recording artist, Howard has released 17 albums under his own name and appeared on hundreds more. He is a founding member of Bela Fleck and The Flecktones and has performed and recorded with an incredibly diverse range of artists including Kenny Loggins, Paquito DRivera, Donald Fagen, and Kurt Elling. The revolutionary technique that he developed on the diatonic harmonica transformed it into a fully chromatic instrument for the first time, opening up possibilities for limitless musical exploration while still retaining the cry of the Blues.Sounding like no other on stage, Howards unparalleled harmonica playing and virtuosic, lyrical pianism creates a 1-2 punch, effortlessly alternating between instruments and sometimes blending the two in wild and unexpected ways. The Chicago Tribune says, As Art Tatum was to the piano, so is Levy to the harmonica: a hyper-virtuoso whose feats can be admired and studied but never really replicated. And Jazz Times notes, Although he cites McCoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock as influences, Levy the pianist has a sunnier, more ebullient style than either, enlivened by an unfailing upward momentum...Chris, house guitarist for A Prairie Home Companion, has recorded and toured with some of Chicagos most eclectic Jazz and fusion groups; Joshua, who played five years with jazz legend Ramsey Lewis, is one of the industrys most in-demand bassists; Luiz, whose Brazilian roots infuse the ensemble with rhythmic and compositional richness, adds profound depth to the groups sound. The Howard Levy 4s live performances are a feast for the intellect and the senses, brimming with unbridled energy and artistic brilliance. Their EP, Live from Chicago, showcases their extraordinary ability to transcend musical genres and captivate audiences. Experience the artistry of The Howard Levy 4, where every concert is a journey through boundless landscapes of musical expression.

  • Joshua Ray Walker w. Boy Golden (solo)
Joshua Ray Walker w. Boy Golden (solo)
Dallas native Joshua Ray Walkers latest release, Thank You For Listening, is a self declared love letter to his fans and supporters. The album is a compilation of acoustic renditions from his critically acclaimed trio of albums Wish You Were Here, Glad You Made It, and See You Next Time. Although the majority of these songs have previously been released, these new renderings strip these fan favorites down to their raw and intimate core, highlighting the essence of Joshua Ray Walkers songwriting and vocal talent. The project also includes the newly released title track Thank You For Listening, which has been described as a gorgeous and melancholic ballad by Brooklyn Vegan. The aforementioned trio of albums, released from 2019 to 2021, are packed tight with character-driven songs that put multiple national-tours worth of crowds on the precipice of staining their shirts with either beers or tears, depending on the song. The third of the trio, See You Next Time, led to Walker appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and CBS Saturday Morning, brought with it performances at the Grand Ole Opry, Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and Gruene Hall in Texas, landed him on Rolling Stones Best of 2021 list, and prompted SPIN to call him one of countrys most exciting storytellers. In 2023, Walker followed up The Trilogy with What Is It Even?, an 11-track cover album consisting of songs made famous by female pop acts. Seemingly unafraid of whether it stripped him of the standard bearer of authentic country music label that some circles have tagged him with, Walker said What Is It Even? is a specific snapshot of some of his inspirations. The song choices make the album feel something like an Alice In Wonderland version of your most fun-loving friends iPod shuffle dug out of their closet. Theres a country version of Chers Believe, a sort of grunge/country adaptation of Q Lazarus Goodbye Horses, a rendition of The Cranberries Linger with Kyle Gass of Tenacious D on the recorder, and the crown jewel, a cover of Lizzos Cuz I Love You that is a vocal showcase. That cover of Lizzo led Rolling Stone to say that the cover ...should be his star-making turn and resulted in a performance of the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Reverie Road
Reverie Road is a genre-defying Celtic powerhouse ensemble, uniting founding Solas members Winifred Horan (fiddle) and John Williams (accordion) with former Gaelic Storm fiddler Katie Grennan and Steinway Artist Jazz and Raga pianist Utsav Lal. Together, these four exceptional musicians are celebrated as some of todays most accomplished traditional and virtuosic folk artists, captivating audiences worldwide from stages to studios for over three decades. Reverie Road takes the rich tapestry of Irish music and weaves it into a cinematic experience, full of expressivity and sophistication. Their performances push the boundaries of tradition, offering stunningly innovative interpretations that retain the heart of the genre while embracing a modern twist. With a sound that masterfully blends Irish roots with fresh departures, their repertoire includes distilled airs, continental waltzes, and high-energy reels and jigs. The band chemistry of two accomplished classically-trained fiddlers who share a common history as award winning Irish dancers along with two instrumentalists who have sought to redefine traditional accompaniment and rhythm sections amount to a compelling concert experience. Reverie Road released their much anticipated debut, self-titled album in early 2024, which immediately made waves in the Irish Traditional music genre. Even before they completed their 25-city album national launch tour across the United States, the album was awarded the coveted Debut Album of the Year title by Ireland Tonight. Whether youre a lover of traditional music or curious about its modern evolution, Reverie Road delivers an exhilarating, boundary-pushing performance that will leave your heart soaring and your toes tapping.

Eric Johanson
Eric Johanson blends sharp songwriting with a deep connection to the guitar, creating music thats dynamic, soulful, and rooted in a mix of rock, blues, and modern influences. His playing is expressive without being flashyriff-driven and rhythmic one moment, fluid and melodic the nextalways serving the song rather than overpowering it. Theres a rawness to his sound, but also a sense of purpose, pulling from the weight of tradition while pushing toward something new. Whether channeling the swampy pulse of his New Orleans home or leaning into heavier, fuzz-laden textures, Johansons music strikes a balance between grit and finesse, power and restraint. As American Songwriter puts it, he displays his guitar prowess but within the borders of melodies and lyrics that push the boundaries of blues/rock searing guitar work, and persuasive songwriting.Since the release of The Deep and the Dirty, Johanson has toured extensively, playing over 100 cities and 10 countries in 2024 alone. His momentum has landed him at the top of the Billboard Blues Chart and on stages alongside some of the most respected names in rock and roots music. Named one of the 25 Best New Blues Guitarists by Guitar Player Magazine and included in Total Guitars list of the 100 Greatest Blues Guitarists of All Time, hes carved out a space where strong songwriting and distinctive guitar work go hand in hand. Whether on record or on stage, Johansons playing is electrifying, his voice unfiltered, and his approach unmistakably his own.

  • Josh Rouse w. Ali Sperry
Josh Rouse w. Ali Sperry
Like a baseball player who quietly hits 30 home runs every year or a golfer who regularly finishes in the Top Ten, Josh Rouses continued streak of excellence is easy to ignore and maybe even downplay a little -- Tim Sendra, Allmusic.comYou dont have to work hard to enjoy Rouses music. His songs present themselves to you with an open heart, an innate intelligence and an absolute lack of pretension. They are clear-eyed, empathetic and penetrating. Without pandering, they seek to satisfy both your ear and your understanding. The verses draw you in with telling detail, both musical and thematic, and the choruses lift and deliver. They resolve without seeming overly tidy or pat.Josh Rouse was born in Nebraska, and following an itinerant upbringing he eventually landed in Nashville where he recorded his debut Dressed Like Nebraska (1998). The albums acclaim led to tours with Aimee Mann, Mark Etzel and the late Vic Chestnut. The followup- Home (2000)yielded the song Directions which Cameron Crowe used in his film Vanilla Sky.Every time Ive made a record, Ive tried to make it different from the last one, says Rouse. I always became fascinated by a different style of music. But at the end of the day, no matter how eclectic I try to make it, its my voice and melodic sensibility that tie things together. For his breakthrough album, 1972 (2003), which happens to be the year he was born, Rouse decided to cheer up a bit. Noting that hed earned a reputation for melancholy, he says, with a laugh, I figured this is my career, I might as well try to enjoy it. While the Seventies are often identified with singer-songwriters, Rouse was primarily attracted to the warmer sound of albums back then, as well as the more communal feel of the soul music of that time. The follow up, Nashville (2005) continued the hot streak and expanded his audience further. After relocating to Valencia, Spain with his wife Paz, Rouse has released a steady stream of high quality songs and albums. Subtitulo (2006) contained the international indie folk hit Quiet Town. On El Turista (2010) he even experimented with writing and singing some songs in Spanish. In 2014, he won a Goya Award (the Spanish equivalent of an Oscar) for best song for Do You Really Want To Be In Love, from the film La Gran Familia Espaola. His latest release Going Places came together over the last two years when Josh Rouse found himself unable to tour and hunkered down with his family in Spain. Together with his Spanish band, he began workshopping new songs in a small local venue owned by a friend, resulting in ten road-ready tracks with a looser, more relaxed vibe.

Course (Album Release) w. Kevin Andrew Prchal
Chicago band Course weaves elements of dream-pop, 90s new-wave, alt-electronic, and indie rock into their breezy, ethereal-meets-industrial sound. Fronted by multifaceted lead singer and songwriter Jess Robbins has been writing and performing since she was nine years old. After establishing herself as a solo artist with her acclaimed 2018 release Lightfield, Robbins formed Course in 2019. Course dropped their debut album in 2021: a dreamy, synth-pop collection of intricate narratives drawn from both imagination and real life. Called dreamy and hypnotic by the Chicago Magazine, Courses sophomore album Tight Feathers was released in 2023. Courses third album Hue Mirror delves into more personal territory both physically and emotionally. Diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis in April 2024 after years of pain and misdiagnosis, Robbins crafted the eight songs during a period fraught with unease about her own health and future, transforming elements from her journey into atmospheric cues in her music. All album proceeds will be donated to the SAA to fund further medical research. Hue Mirror is a first-hand account of what it feels like to grapple with an invisible illness and an unpredictable future. Theres a human fragility to these songs, juxtaposed by the electronic instruments that swirl around Robbins voice like wintry weather, surrounding her melodies with clouds of reverb and synthesized sound. At the center of each song is the beating heart of a survivor who refuses to be silenced, even as her pain persists.

The award-winning, hard-touring, guitar slinger blends smoking electric funk and slide guitar, jazzy instrumentals and a tight blues groove with soulful, feminine vocals. Add to the mix her incredible stage presence, all of which makes her an irresistible force in the world of contemporary blues music. Shes shown her commitment to celebrating her guitar-driven, eclectic music style through consistent touring, awards, and recognition for the past 25 years. In the process, shes emerged as one of the most thoughtful, dynamic, and committed performers in modern songwriting and guitar.Anas latest studio album, Power, released on May 5, 2023, on ArtisteXclusive Records, brings those dynamics to the fore and, in the process, turns this set of songs into both a powerful and personal tale of survival through faith, determination and tenacity. They were spawned from a decidedly tricky set of circumstances that tested Anas devotion to making music and her perseverance.Power symbolizes unity. Album cover art: two holding hands, black and white, is what this world needs. Its the power, and its the force thats going to move this world forward. Without that power, there wouldnt have been so much remarkable music today, ideas, and reforms. And indeed, not this record. This story is about friendship and embracing yourself with everything life throws at you.If that all isnt enough, in 2023 she decided to take on an even bigger task: fronting her brand new, genre-bending, BIG BAND project FANTASTAFUNK that showcases an excellent 11 piece band. SOLD OUT - Kathleen Edwards w. Matt Sucich
For decades, Kathleen Edwards has been a cornerstone of North American roots music.Since making her debut with 2002s Failer, shes spent the 21st century occupying the grey area between genres, swirling together her own mix of alt-country, folk, and heartland rock s a sound that has earned its creator more than a half-dozen Juno nominations, as well as Top 40 success on both sides of the Canadian/American border. Now in her third decade as an artist, Kathleen Edwards has done more than carry the torch of songwriting heroes like Tom Petty, Neil Young, and Lucinda Williams shes opened the door for others, too, inspiring a new generation of artists who, like her, blur the boundaries between genre and generation.A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Edwards was still in her early 20s when she released the critically-acclaimed Failer. The albums warm, woozy sound crystallized on radio hits like Six OClock News quickly turned her into one of the eras alt-country heroes. From the very start, though, Edwards music seemed to exist somewhere out of time, resisting categorization even as Failer received a Juno nomination for Roots No one knew what to call my type of music back then, she says of those early years. The Americana genre didnt exist yet, so they couldnt categorize me. I just made the kind of music I wanted to make.

Melissa Ferrick w. Rose Cousins
30 years into a prolific career as a genre and gender-defying songwriter, Melissa Ferrick continues to disrupt normative categorization. Indie, Alternative, Folk, Punk.Melissa Ferrick wont be labeled. With disarming wit and raw vulnerability, every lyric in Ferricks immense catalog is an invitation to confession or catharsis. In 2023, Ferrick signed with Kill Rock Stars, a label that has long been emblematic of authentic storytelling and home to indie acts including Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, The Decemberists and Elliott Smith.Being on this label is an alignment of who I am musically. KRS serves all of the different approaches to music that exist in me.To commemorate its 25th anniversary, Ferrick has re-recorded her critically acclaimed album Everything I Need, set to be released October 11th, 2024. Just me and the guitar using live takes and no overdubs, Ferrick captures the emotional intensity that has become a signature of her live performances. The power songs have on marking time dumbfounds me. I remember writing each of them, I remember recording them, I remember the first time I heard Everything I Need on the radio, and I remember the first time an audience sang along. This album marked a time in my life when I was freed of so many boundaries - some imparted and some I hadnt been willing to let go. In June, Ferrick released the new single, Black Dress and a cover of Tegan and Saras Where Does the Good Go, both of which will be included as bonus tracks on the album. Ferricks impact reaches far beyond her music. As one of the few openly queer artists in the 1990s, she navigated and challenged the sexism, homophobia, and rigid gender expectations of the music industry. Her trailblazing journey not only paved the way for future generations of artists but also created a space where they could express their identities and be celebrated on their own terms. Most recently, Melissa launched Drive Music Agency (DMA), a booking agency and consulting company designed to help launch new acts in the indie scene. She is also a Professor of Practice at Northeastern University, teaching courses in music business, songwriting, creative entrepreneurship, demo recording and production, and the psychology of creativity. Melissa was an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music from 2013 to 2019 and holds an Ed.M. from Harvard University. Growing up in Ipswich Massachusetts, Ferricks passion for music began at an early age. Classically trained in violin and piano, Ferricks education is also rooted in jazz, playing both trumpet and bass. As a self-taught guitarist, Ferrick began her career playing local venues in Cambridge like The Middle East and T.T. The Bears, which paved the way for legendary acts like The Indigo Girls, The Pixies, and The Flaming Lips. Ferricks major breakthrough came in 1991 when she stepped in for Morrisseys opening act just an hour before showtime. Her impressive performance earned her an invitation to tour with Morrissey in the U.S. and UK, leading to a major label deal with Atlantic Records. Her debut album, Massive Blur (1993), introduced her blend of introspective songwriting and genre-crossing sound.

Traumatic events and warm events leave psychological imprints theres this pattern to it, says the Knoxville, Tennessee-based performer. Different moments and different impressions throughout our lives will ripple out and demand repeated engagement. They play out in little holidays that we celebrate over and over. Those patterns and markers of time are a crucial thread running through Adeems new album Anniversary, due out May 3, 2024 via Thirty Tigers. Recorded live to tape over five days at The Butcher Shop (Nashville, TN) and produced by Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Frank Turner) with the master musicianship of Megan Coleman (Jenny Lewis and Allison Russell), Nelson Williams (Jake Blount), Ellen Angelico (Wheeler Walker Jr.), Jessye DeSilva, Aaron Lee Tasjan, and Katie Pruitt, the 12-song collection is a stunning statement of empathy, humor, and deep introspection.Delivering impossibly heavy and deep subject matter in an empathetic and humane way, thats the beauty of Anniversary Adeem always digs deeper to find the complicated truths that are contained within.

The Del McCoury Band
Even among the pantheon of musics finest artists, Del McCoury stands alone. From the nascent sound of bluegrass that charmed hardscrabble hillbilly honkytonks, rural schoolhouse stages, and the crowning glory of the Grand Ole Opry to the present-day culture-buzz of viral videos and digital streams, Del is the living link. On primetime and late-night television talk shows, there is Del. From headlining sold-out concerts to music festivals of all genres, including one carrying his namesake, there is Del. Where audiences number in the tens of thousands, and admirers as diverse as country-rock icon Steve Earle and jamband royalty Phish count as a few among hundreds, there is Del.Emerging from humble beginnings in York County, PA nearly eighty years ago, Del was not the likeliest of candidates for legendary status. As a teen, he was captivated by the banjo playing of one of its masters, Earl Scruggs, and decided hed be a banjo picker, too. The Baltimore/Washington, D.C. bar scene of the early 1960s was lively and rough. Del caught a break. More than a break, really. It was an opportunity of a lifetime; joining Bill Monroes Blue Grass Boys in early 1963. Considered the Father of Bluegrass, Monroe transformed McCoury, moving him from the banjo to guitar, anointing him lead singer, and providing him with a priceless trove of bluegrass tutelage direct from the source.Countless hours of recording sessions and miles of tireless touring dotted the decades. Del carried on, and carried with him the hallowed traditions of the form and its dedicated following. The passing years became certificates of authenticity. So, in the sea of grunge and R&B that dominated the music scene of the mid-1990s, it was special, perhaps even startling, to see: There was Del.Now helming the Del McCoury Band, with sons Ronnie and Rob, the ensemble did and continues to represent in a larger, growing musical community a peerless torchbearer for the entire sweep and scope of bluegrass history. Those many years, not to mention a good-natured willingness to stay alert to the latest sounds and opportunities around him, earned McCoury a whole new generation of fans, including some in unlikely places.Im just doing whats natural, says Del. When young musicians ask me what they should do I always tell them, You do whatevers inside of you. Do what you do best.

  • Billy Allen + The Pollies
Billy Allen + The Pollies
There is a ferocious Southern engine inside of Billy Allen + The Pollies debut album Black Noise. It thrums to life atop a classic rock chassis and expertly weaves in and out of gospel, grunge, funk and soul along its eleven-song journey. From the explosive top of the album (a liberating anthem of self-worth called All of Me) to the spiritually haunting final track (the wurlitzer fueled Go on Without Them) Black Noise is a genre-defiant haymaker that lands. The band is a hybrid of four piece rock outfit The Pollies and fellow Alabamian, and frontman, Billy Allen. The story of what fused Allen and The Pollies is one that begins in a bar 8 years ago. This particular bar was on Allens gig circuit and it just so happens to be where Jay Burgess (founder of The Pollies) was having a drink that evening. While there was intrigue and potential in that first chance meeting, the two would remain ships in the night, each building their own careers, until years later when the stars would align at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals. As the story goes, both Allen and The Pollies, who were all occasional session musicians at Fame, were finally in the room together and the track on deck was Little Richards Greenwood, MS. To hear Allen retell this part of the story is to hear a man talk about the beginnings of a priceless friendship. There was an immediate romantic musical connection, Allen said. This is my band. To hear Burgess tell it, the feeling was mutual. Over the subsequent year, the two groups rehearsed, toured, wrote, and gelled together under the moniker Billy Allen + The Pollies. The joining of Billy and Jay (along with the other charter members of The Pollies: Spencer Duncan, Jon Davis & Clint Chandler) was like the clicking of a dislocated bone back into true.Named after a theoretical sound bomb with the power to destroy whole cities, Black Noise was written almost entirely during the pandemic, beginning as voice memos between Burgess and Allen. With the lockdown in full swing, the musicians became each others micro-community, and voice memos progressed to writing sessions in Jays garage, and continued to full band rehearsals at Jays Greenhill, Alabama, sanctuary Studio 144. When the time to cut the record arrived, they tapped long-time friend and Grammy winning musician Ben Tanner to produce and engineer. Tanner (co-owner of SingleLock Records and former Alabama Shakes keys player) brought the band to Sun Drop Sound in Florence where the bulk of the recording was done. The band was so deeply meshed that the album they captured between April and November of 2021, other than a small overdub section, was recorded fully live, without a click, and 3 takes or less per song.Listening to Black Noise feels like walking on the alien terrain of a new genre. It sounds like garage grunge by way of Jackie Wilson. The very same kerchief Billy Allen uses to wipe sweat from his brow on stage could be carrying DNA from Wilson Pickett, Joe Cocker, DAngelo, Ziggy Stardust, or any of the Spiders from Mars. Theirs is a gritty and trailblazing sound. They are a band full of smiling time travelers, able to visit and draw from a multitude of eras and styles. Black Noise is an album that devastates you to the point of remembering why you love music. This is the type of band you root for. You cant help it. Theyre that damn good.

Blue Monday: Harrell "Young Rell" Davenport
How does a 18-year-old kid raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi play his first gig in Chicago and wind up with 165,000 views and 4,000 shares of his performance on Facebook? Well, if you are Harrell Young Rell Davenport, who started playing harmonica and guitar at seven years, the answer is easy: he is a rising star in the blues world.A dexterous and inventive guitarist and a fat-toned harmonica phenom, Young Rell is already a commanding vocalist and a poetic and poignant songwriter. Whether he is accompanying himself on guitar while playing harmonica on a rack and singing, or alternating between guitar and harmonica with an ensemble, Young Rell sings his songs with sincerity and without a hint of affectation, working the stage with the poise and charisma of a veteran performer.A prolific and engaging presence on social media, Young Rell has created a global community of fans and followers who have not only praised his talent but engaged enthusiastically with him on the subject of musicianship, musical instruments and past generations of famous and obscure blues inspirations. As a child, Rell navigated personal struggles and trauma by immersing himself in music that was born in response to oppression and hardship. He found solace studying and expressing himself in the blues. His community building and graceful social interaction have landed him relationships and experiences with the greatest blues artists alive today. He has been championed by Billy Branch, Kingfish Ingram, Bob Margolin, Bernard Allison and many others. He has already performed at the King Biscuit Blues Festival, both of Morgan Freemans Ground Zero Blues Clubs in Mississippi, Reds Juke Joint in Clarksdale, and many more. This blues singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is fired up and bound for your venueall you got to do is call!

  • Dustbowl Revival
Dustbowl Revival
How do you describe genre-defying roots music adventurers Dustbowl Revival? Even tireless founder and lead songwriter Z. Lupetin would agree you have to come to a show to find out. Going strong into their second decade after starting from a humble Craigslist ad posted in bohemian Venice Beach, some would say Dustbowls ever-evolving collective (there have been nearly thirty members!) plays a spicy cocktail of folky-funk or booty-shaking jangly rock n soul: expertly mixing their New Orleans-tinted brass section with their signature Laurel Canyon harmonies and fearless lyrics. While most bands stay in one lane or fade away quickly, Dustbowl Revival is a testament to building a fanbase and their own sound the old-fashioned way, with hard work and moving songs that stick to your bones when you leave the concert. Theres a reason they continue to get written up in Rolling Stone and Billboard and get played on AAA radio 16 years after they set sail. While staying proudly independent, the band has garnered over ten million streams and counting - with romantic jams like Honey, I Love You (featuring bluesmaster Keb Mo) and fan favorites like Sonic Boom and Debtors Prison leading the charge. Many first learned about the band after the now 98-year old legend (and fan of the group) Dick Van Dyke let the gang shoot a music video with him dancing in his signature straw hat at his house - and of course the quirky jam to Never Had To Go went viral. It hasnt always been easy - being a 7-8 piece band during the upheaval caused by the pandemic did make some in the band move on - but it also brought in a new supercharged group of amazing players - such as Lashon Halley and more recently Alex Nester on vocals, Chad Richard on electric guitar and Nick Phakpiseth on bass, while still featuring longtime brass players like Ulf Bjorlin, Vikram Devasthali, Joakim Toftgaard, Mike Jones, Max Oleary, and original drummer Josh Heffernan and special guest Michael Villiers to round out the band. Even their original lady singer Caitlin Doyle, who joined after one of the original Craigslist ads went live all those years ago - is back in the fold behind the mic. However you sip their sound, Dustbowl Revival has become a beloved fixture of the Americana community - from playing tiny speakeasies and pubs around their southern California base, to headlining thousands of shows in ten countries and counting. Indeed, founder Z. Lupetins quixotic Craigslist ad hoping to find like-minded music-makers to play songs inspired equally by Wilco, Bob Dylan and Springsteen as Nina Simone, Fleetwood Mac and Bill Withers may seem confusing, but somehow it worked.Maybe we dont know where this journey will take us or how long it will last, acknowledges Lupetin, Thats my take on the importance of what we try to do. Music elevates us, lifts us up, makes us change our minds, takes us out of our comfort zones. If just one person can be moved by just one song, thats enough.

Expo '76 and the Total Pro Horns
Quite simply, Expo 76 is unforgettable! Assembled from the eclectic ranks of Poi Dog Pondering, Tomorrow The Moon, The New Duncan Imperials, Mucca Pazza, and The Renaldo Domino Experience, this cast of characters covers tunes in name and style like no other. Plan on spending the night excitedly wondering, What could possible happen next?!?Their ever-expanding set list careens wildly through decades and genres as the band follows its own muse. Whether theyre storming through a rockabilly chestnut, a show tune, a top 40 hit from their (or your) childhood, brassy, jazzy hits and more, youll feel the unbridled joy of some of Chicagos busiest and most respected musicians doing what they were born to do. Indeed...Quite simply, theyre unforgettable. After more than a dozen years as an entity, Expo76 rolls on impossibly fresh in each performance, their reputation as the Chicago areas most reliably potent and unpredictable cover band firmly established. Their secret all along has simply been remaining true to themselves, playing the music they want to play. Their set list is a far-flung assortment of hits, forgotten classics and deep cuts, that careens effortlessly across all genres and politely sidesteps old warhorses. When singer/guitarist Dag Juhlin (Poi Dog Pondering, Sunshine Boys) put out a call to his longtime friends, keyboardist Kenny Goodman (The Service, New Duncan Imperials) drummer John Carpender (Outronaut, The Real Pretenders) and bassist Ralph Baumel (The Real Pretenders) in 2009, his only guideline was that the band just focused on being great, and that the rest would take care of itself. It worked. Expo76 began their monthly residency at Simons Tavern in Chicago in early 2010, and within a few months the room was packed out and they were on the cover of The Chicago Sun Times arts section.Along the way, theyve played hundreds of gigs beyond that residency: street fairs, dances, weddings, private parties, swanky fundraisers and more, in every possible setting. Theyve been joined onstage by notable singers and assorted show folk like Robert Cornelius, Kelly Hogan, Joel Murray, Syd Straw, Frank Orrall, Michael McDermott, Jack McGee, and an up and coming singer from Evanston named Eddie Vedder.Being bolstered by the ferocious and rightly in-demand Total Pro Horns means the Expo76 catalog has even more depth and power, and the Pros wholly share the bands irreverent but musically razor-sharp approach to performance.A night of Expo76 is an unforgettable experience: songs that unlock memories or invite further exploration, performances that dazzle, and overflowing good vibes, delivered with a generous serving of world class banter. Theres no one else like them.

The official credit tells it like it is. Recorded in an old building in Ripley, Mississippi thats all the info we get, and all that we need. When CEDRIC BURNSIDE prepared to record Hill Country Love, the follow-up to his 2021 Grammy-winning album I Be Trying, he set up shop in a former legal office located in a row of structures in the seat of Tippah County, a town with 5,000 residents thats known as the birthplace of the Hill Country Blues style. That building was actually going to be my juke joint. Everything was made out of wood, which made the sound resonate like a big wooden box, said Burnside. He called up producer Luther Dickinson (co-founder of the acclaimed North Mississippi Allstars and the son of legendary Memphis producer/musician Jim Dickinson), who brought recording equipment into the empty space. We recorded in the middle of a bunch of rubbish wood everywhere and garbage cans, Burnside says. We just laid everything out the way and recorded the album right there.

John R. Miller w. Rebecca Rego
John R Miller is a true hyphenate artist: singer-songwriter-picker. Every song on his thrilling upcoming debut solo album, Depreciated, is lush with intricate wordplay and haunting imagery, as well as being backed by a band that is on fire. One of his biggest long-time fans is roots music favorite Tyler Childers, who says hes a well-travelled wordsmith mapping out the world hes seen, three chords at a time. Miller is somehow able to transport us to a shadowy honkytonk and get existential all in the same line with his tightly written compositions. Millers own guitar-playing is on fine display here along with vocals that evoke the white-waters of the Potomac River rumbling below the high ridges of his native Shenandoah Valley.Miller grew up in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia near the Potomac River. There are three or four little towns I know well that make up the region, he says, name-checking places like Martinsburg, Shepherdstown, Hedgesville, and Keyes Gap. Its a haunted place. In some ways its frozen in time. So much old stuff has lingered there, and its history is still very present. As much as Miller loves where hes from, hes always had a complicated relationship with home and never could figure out what to do with himself there. I just wanted to make music, and theres no real infrastructure for that there. We had to travel to play regularly and as teenagers, most of our gigs were spent playing in old church halls or Ruritan Clubs. He was raised kinda sorta Catholic and although he gave up on that as a teenager, he says it follows me everywhere, still.

The Bad Sneakers Orchestra
The Bad Sneakers Orchestra is a tribute band formed in 2010 by Chicago bassist Paul Martin with an ambitious mission statement: to faithfully recreate the music of Steely Dan live, as represented on their classic albums. This goal necessitated a very large 14-piece ensemble, so that multiple keys and guitar parts, intricate vocal harmonies, and rich horn textures could be realized. After 10+ years of performances (with time off for Covid) the band is at its peak, offering the signature Fagen/Becker compositions with a casual aplomb and precision. (They make it look easy. Its not.) And despite the fastidious attention paid to the recorded material, the members inevitably bring their individual voiceprints to bear within the framework of a cover tune. A number of Chicago legends have appeared with the Sneakers over the years, most notably legendary Chicago Rs lead singer. Also fusion guitarists Ernie Denov, Chris Siebold, and Mike Pinto (now the newest bandmember), vocalists Mike Harvey (who appeared on 2 Steely Dan albums and a Donald Fagen solo album), Cheryl Wilson (Peabo Bryson, Bertie Higgins), gospel sensation Tina Crawley, and Chicago saxophonist Steve Eisen. The charter members are top-drawer Chicago musicians, with decades of experience performing with some of the greatest names in the music industry. Rose City Band w. Powers / Rolin Duo
Rose City Bands music is sun-kissed timeless country rock whose seemingly effortless momentum carries the joy of its creation without ignoring the darkness pervading our consciousness. Led by guitarist/vocalist Ripley Johnson, the music of Rose City Band is rooted in his love of private press records of the mid to late 70s. The band, in addition to Johnson, features pedal steel guitarist Barry Walker, keyboardist Paul Hasenberg and drummer John Jeffrey who enmesh a keen sense of rhythmic drive and melody with gentler, sumptuous atmospheres. Sol Y Sombra digs its heels into insatiable grooves, its parade of catchy songs conjuring a sunset drive through an open desert, both a celebration of a sojourn and a reach for the warmth of home.

  • Anna Ash and Malena Cadiz
Anna Ash and Malena Cadiz
Anna Ash writes songs of profound, startling, sensuous insight. Call it country, call it rocknroll, call it pulling off the road somewhere between Silver Lake and Bakersfield just to roll a cigarette, kick at the gravel, and brood. Shes released four full-length albums, but has become widely known due to the success of her version of Lucinda Williams Righteously, which was an outtake from her 2016 album Floodlights.Michigan born, currently Los Angeles based, her music has been featured on the Showtime series Billions and Masters of Sex, as well as Freeforms The Fosters and Epixs docuseries Helter Skelter: An American Myth. Her 2022 album, Sleeper, received attention from No Depression, Americana UK, and BBC Radio Scotland, and placements on Spotifys Fresh Finds, Torch and Twang, Noir, and Fresh Folk playlists. In 2013, her first album, These Holy Days, was released in Japan on Tugboat Records. She is currently working on her fifth album. ______Michigan born and L.A. based Malena Cadiz is a lady of the canyon waylaid at a suburban strip mall, acutely aware of how romance shines through even in the moments of grit and desolation. Theres something Didion-esque about Cadizs storytelling as she crafts deeply personal vignettes that reveal greater narratives about the world we live in. The 10 songs on her 3rd full length album, Hellbent & Moonbound are full of wit and vulnerability, capturing the strange beauty and humor of day to day life.Growing up a second-generation Filipino-American, Cadiz bounced between living in the suburbs of Michigan with her mother and bustling Singapore with her father. I always felt rootless, not quite belonging to either place. This longing for home and search for center rests at the heart of Cadizs work. The Fader has likened her work to Karen Dalton and NPR compared her to an earthbound Joanna Newsom, Cadiz has a voice that grabs you within seconds. Her songs have been featured on Nancy Drew (CW), Lucifer (Netflix), REBEL (ABC), among others.

Rory Block
Heralded as a living landmark (Berkeley Express), a national treasure (Guitar Extra), and one of the greatest living acoustic blues artists (Blues Revue), Rory Block has committed her life and her career to preserving the Delta blues tradition and bringing it to life for 21st century audiences around the world. A traditionalist and an innovator at the same time, she wields a fiery and haunting guitar and vocal style that redefines the boundaries of acoustic blues and folk. The New York Times declared: Her playing is perfect, her singing otherworldly as she wrestles with ghosts, shadows and legends. Born in Princeton, NJ, Aurora Rory Block grew up in Manhattan a family with Bohemian leanings. Her father owned a Greenwich Village sandal shop, where musicians like Bob Dylan, Maria Muldaur and John Sebastian all made occasional appearances. The rich and diverse Village scene was a constant influence on her cultural sensibilities. She was playing guitar by age ten, and by her early teens she was sitting in on the Sunday jam sessions in Washington Square Park. During these years, her life was touched and profoundly changed by personal encounters with some of the earliest and most influential Delta blues masters of the 20th century. She made frequent visits to the Bronx, where she learned her first lessons in blues and gospel music from the Reverend Gary Davis. She swapped stories and guitar licks with seminal bluesman Son House, Robert Johnsons mentor (He kept asking, Where did she learn to play like this?). She visited Skip James in the hospital after his cancer surgery. She traveled to Washington, DC, to visit with Mississippi John Hurt and absorb first-hand his technique and his creativity. This period seemed to last forever, Block Recalls nearly forty years later. I now realize how lucky I was to be there, in the right place at the right time. I thought everyone knew these incredible men, these blues geniuses who wrote the book. I later realized how fleeting it was, and how even more precious. By the time she was in high school, her family had splintered in different directions. With nothing holding her down, she left home at 15 with her guitar and a few friends heading for California on a trip marked by numerous detours and stops in small towns. Along he way, she picked her way through a vast catalog of country blues songs and took her first steps in developing a fingerpicking and slide guitar style that would eventually be her trademark.

  • Low Cut Connie w. Judy Blank
Low Cut Connie w. Judy Blank
This record is all kink and no shame, says Adam Weiner of ART DEALERS, the tough, sexy and tender new album coming from Low Cut Connie. With Low Cut Connie, I try to create a safe space for you to just absolutely get your freak on.For years now, Low Cut Connie has built its grassroots coalition of oddballs, underdogs, and fun-lovingweirdos with songs that celebrate life on the fringes of polite society. The bands infamously wild, passionate live shows provide a total release - of stress, of inhibition, of shame - working up a primordial rock n roll sweat for fans to get blissfully soaked in. The new album, and its full-length companion film, sizzle with that same cathartic sweat, reminding us that its time to get dirty again, and to feel alive. ART DEALERS sits at the intersection of sleazy and soulful - a collection of risky, romantic, life-affirming anthems, all dedicated to you.I think rock n roll exists to be a red-blooded, countercultural medium, says Weiner, who has performed under the Low Cut Connie moniker for over a decade, Youre supposed to get your hair messed-up. That imperative comes through in the adults-only tone of songs like the opening Tell Me Something I Dont Know, a sinuous, lurid rocker that sounds like walking through depraved Times Square in 1978 - neon-lit and nasty with a snapping beat. The speedy, fuzzed-up garage-rocker Whips and Chains calls out Trump and the current wave of neo-fascism, without ever losing its boogie rhythm section. But theres also tenderness behind the curtain here, as on the yearning first single Are You Gonna Run? and Call Out My Name, which evoke the sweet sad love that punky boys like the New York Dolls and the Ramones used to have for tough girls like the Ronettes and the Shangri-Las.

  • Pokey LaFarge
Pokey LaFarge
After crisscrossing the nation for the last half-decade looking for a home, Pokey LaFarge found himself in Mid-Coast Maine. Upon arriving, the Illinois-born singer/songwriter/actor pursued a major life change, working 12-hour days on a local farma turn of events that catalyzed an extraordinary burst of creativity and redefined his sense of purpose as an artist. On his new album Rhumba Country, LaFarge reveals his newly heightened devotion to making music that channels pure joy. There was a time when I glorified sadness because I lost sight of who I was, but now I understand that creating and expressing joy is my gift, and gifts are meant to be shared, he says. Reclaiming his voice, LaFarge has recorded his boldest album yet. Rhumba Country was initially shaped from material that emerged while LaFarge was deep in work on the farm. Id be pushing a plow or scattering seeds, and the songs would just come to me, he recalls. It was tremendously inspirational and made me realize that apart from singing, farming is perhaps the oldest human art form. But as he moved forward with his songwriting, something felt undeniably amiss. LaFarge then spoke with fellow Midwestern transplant Elliot Bergman (Wild Belle), who suggested he return to city life in Los Angeles for a season so that the two musicians could work togethera collaboration that soon brought the rhumba to LaFarges country. As he immersed himself in the albums creation, LaFarge began dreaming up a kaleidoscopic sound informed by his love of music from far-ranging eras and corners of the globe, including mambo, tropiclia, rocksteady, and mid-century American rock-and-roll. Co-produced along with Chris Seefried and Bergman and recorded in L.A., the resulting Rhumba Country is an invitation to come together to celebrate life and love. The songs that naturally come to me are upbeat and make you wanna dance or at least bop your headtheyre all very colorful, says LaFarge. I used to think of my music in dark blue, but now I see it in technicolor. On the album-opening One You, One Me, LaFarge offers a retreat into the charmed and rhapsodic world of Rhumba Country, sharing a breezy love song rendered with radiant simplicity. The same way Picasso worked his whole life to paint like a child, Ive been more focused on simplifying my music over the years, he says. The fewer the chord movements and simpler the lyrics, the clearer the message. Its about trying to get to the point where the songs are almost like prayers.

  • Lera Lynn
Lera Lynn
Lera Lynn is an acclaimed singer-songwriter whose haunting voice, cinematic soundscapes, and genre-defying style have earned her a devoted cult following. Blending Americana, indie rock, folk noir, and art pop noir, she has crafted an unmistakable sonic identity that is both timeless and ever-evolving. Lynn first gained wide recognition for her music featured on HBOs True Detective (Season 2), where her atmospheric songs and on-screen performance left an indelible mark on viewers. A fiercely independent artist, Lynn has built a career on thoughtful songwriting, poetic lyricism, and meticulous production, all while nurturing a direct relationship with her fans, running her own independent label, Ruby Range Records. Beyond her own albums, she has composed and produced music for video games, podcast theme songs, and films, collaborated with a vast array of artists, and produced records for others. Her music has been placed in countless films and television series, further cementing her ability to create evocative, cinematic soundscapes. On stage, she has toured from California to Eastern Europe and everywhere in between, delivering mesmerizing performances that captivate audiences worldwide. Now, 10 years after True Detective, Lynn revisits that pivotal era with True Sessions, a four-song EP reimagining the music that introduced her to a wider audience. This special release serves as a heartfelt gift to her fans, offering a glimpse into how far she has come while honoring the raw, moody essence of those songs. But Lynn is not one to dwell on the past. This spring, she will officially announce her ninth studio album, Comic Book Cowboy, set for release on September 19. Expanding her stylistic repertoire while sharpening her singular sound, this album plays with contrastsgritty realism versus idealized heroism, and the absurdity of living up to a fantasy. It explores the tension between self-perception and the roles society expects us to play, capturing the struggle of wrestling with ones own mythology. Both self-aware and even subtly comedic at times, Comic Book Cowboy stands out as an anthem for anyone striving for authenticity in a world so full of expectations. It delivers the moody, immersive textures Lera Lynn fans have come to love while pushing into uncharted sonic territory. Lush production, dynamic arrangements, and deeply introspective lyrics weave together to create an album that feels both familiar and refreshingly new. With Comic Book Cowboy, Lynn reaffirms why she remains one of the most compelling independent artists of her generationan artist unafraid to evolve, take risks, and forge her own path, all while staying deeply connected to the fans who have supported her every step of the way.

Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers
Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers will make a sprightly young groove doctor out of anyone. With spectacular energy pulsating from every member of the band, the Rainbow Seekers could illuminate the very chambers of Heaven. Lead singer Joe Hertler splashes through lyrical puddles of golden rain, leaving his audience wearing flowery crowns and bubbling smiles. A ride on the Rainbow will take you across the mountains of Motown, through the fjords of folk, over the archipelagos of Americana, and-at last-into a funky firth, where only the fiercest of friendships can be found. The Rainbow Seekers began their historic quest 8 years ago, revolving around the pure, unadulterated songwriting of their fearless leader, Joe Hertler. Ryan Hoger was the first among the Seekers to find this lonely songsmith and recognize the twinkling magic in his beard. The young boy gave up all his earthly possessions (besides his guitar, of course) and became the first disciple of the Rainbow. With this, the core of the Rainbow was thereby established, and it didnt take long for the Rainbow Seekers to continue their expansion. Multi-instrumentalist and notable auxiliary percussion maestro Micah Bracken journeyed from the bowels of Atlantis when he heard tell of the Rainbow, and the earth trembled as saxophonist and all-around badass Aaron Stinson descended from Olympus on a golden rainbow of his own. Then came thunder from the depths of space and as it picked up the bass, a soft exhale escaped the lips of every princess within a hundred moons, Bambis, they cooed. All the while, on the other ends of the earth, a young boy was hard at work, honing and sharpening his sticks for the day that the Rainbow would come his way, and when it landed at his door, Ryan McMahon climbed aboard. If youre still reading this, at least one thing is true: The Rainbow Seekers have been waiting for you. If youll only let them, they will shake the dust from your wildest expectations. They will roar into your life with rapturous frequencies, exuberant tone, and a joyfulness of purpose that has truly become a rare sight on stage. Join them in their celebration, and they will take you on a never-ending journey to a place youll never be able to describe in words.

Hes not interested in telling the rest of us what to do or think. But he is charting out a personal guide for his life, quieting the noise, and sitting with his real voice the one thats candid, consistent, and often inconvenient. Were Only Human is Carlls tenth album. Like his best lyrics, it is also an understated masterpiece, an honest snapshot of one mans confrontation and delight with humanitys biggest and most intimate questions. Where do we find forgiveness for ourselves and grace for others? How do we hold on to peace of mind and stay present? What can weand should wetrust? And how can we moor ourselves to, well, ourselves, in the midst of confusing, trying times? Were Only Human offers audiences the chance to listen to Carll as he listens to himself.Ive lived outside of myself for so long, Carll admits. Distractions, fear, anxiety, insecurity, and the complexity of being human in this world have so often pulled me away from being present or at peace.I feel like theres been a voice riding shotgun all my life, pushing me to do better, but Ive struggled to listen to it, Carll says. The idea behind this record was to do the personal work I needed to do, then codify those lessons in song to serve as sort of breadcrumbs to get me back on the trail if, and inevitably when, I get lost again.
